The FRESCOS Contemporary Music Ensemble

Founded as a students’ group at Odessa Conservatoire, 1990, they joined “Odessa Philharmony” (state concert agency) in 1994. The main principles in the choice of repertoire are reflected in their name: preference is given to the compositions that affect fundamental spiritual and philosophical problems. Another principle is an appeal to the means of various performing and visual arts. The ensemble have performed both new music and 20th-century classic compositions in concerts and at festivals in Ukraine, Russia, Moldova, Tatarstan, Japan, Germany, Poland, France, particularly concert-portraits of Odessa composers Karmella Tsepkolenko, Liudmila Samodaieva and Vadim Larchikov. The FRESCOS won the 2nd prize at the 7th Carlo Soliva International Chamber Ensembles Competition in Casale Monferrato, Italy, 1996. The FRESCOS include also two duos with their particular activities: 'Duo Violoncellissimo' (Cello, Cello/Viola da Gamba) and 'Duo Cadence' (Violin, Accordion). The founder and Artistic Director of the ensemble is Vadim Larchikov.
